Budget Report Projects $24-Million Deficit
SAN DIEGO
The city will be $24 million in the red next year, according to a midyear budget report released by City Manager Michael Uberuaga.
The projection does not include $14.7 million in lost state funding or a $1-billion retirement fund deficit.
The financial outlook includes an additional $13 million for public safety and $15 million to stop the retirement deficit from growing, Mayor Dick Murphy said.
The projection also assumes the City Council will generate $7 million by voting to raise certain fees, Uberuaga said.
