Sykora Awaits Final Test

Mighty Duck forward Petr Sykora underwent a series of precautionary medical tests to determine the cause of ailments that began during a game against Columbus on Friday.

Sykora was taken to the hospital after the Ducks’ 3-1 loss to Columbus. He was released the next day and flew home. Duck officials said he was suffering from severe dehydration. Sykora will undergo one more test today before doctors allow him to participate in practice.

“Everything looks fine,” Duck General Manager Bryan Murray said. “We were playing back-to-back games and Petr got a little run-down.”

Sykora, who scored a goal against Columbus, said that he began feeling ill during the game.

“It started in the third period and got worse after the game,” Sykora said. “I feel better, but I don’t know right now. All I know is I will be at practice [today].”

Murray spent much of the last two weeks scouting the Ducks’ prospects, who were participating in the playoffs with their Canadian junior teams.

Corey Perry, who was nearly traded to Edmonton for Mike Comrie, had 10 assists for London in its sweep over Windsor.

“Corey has really matured for a young guy,” Murray said. “He is a real important player for a very good London team.”

Ryan Getzlaf had two goals and one assist in Calgary’s first five playoff games. Tim Brent has a goal and two assists, both on game-winning goals, in Toronto St. Michael’s first five playoff games.

Duck Coach Mike Babcock will be an assistant coach for Team Canada in the World Hockey Championships, which begin April 24.
