Several Look Ahead to International Play

Times Staff Writer

With only two games remaining in the regular season and the playoffs an unreachable goal, the Mighty Ducks haven’t had much to look forward to lately.

But for some players, not being involved in the NHL’s postseason means an opportunity to play in the World Hockey Championships from April 24-May 9 in the Czech Republic.

“It’s at least something positive to look at,” said defenseman Ruslan Salei of Belarus.

Duck players who could get invitations to the World Hockey Championships and World Cup of Hockey include Jean-Sebastien Giguere, Rob Niedermayer, Andy McDonald and Steve Rucchin of Canada; Petr Sykora, Martin Skoula and Vaclav Prospal of the Czech Republic; Samuel Pahlsson and Niclas Havelid of Sweden; Sergei Fedorov of Russia; Martin Gerber of Switzerland; and Keith Carney of the U.S.
