Laker Thriller Highly Rated
The Lakers’ 74-73 victory over San Antonio in Game 5 of their NBA playoff series Thursday night provided ABC with a 6.0 national Nielsen rating, its highest of the playoffs so far.
ABC’s previous high was a 4.9 for Game 1 of the Laker-Spur series May 2. It was after that game that Thursday night’s Game 5 was added to ABC’s schedule. Previously, no weeknight game was scheduled to be shown on ABC before the NBA Finals.
ABC, which has shown five playoff games, is averaging a 4.7 rating, down 10% from a 5.2 at this point last year.
In Los Angeles, Thursday night’s Laker game drew a 19.3 rating with a 33 share, compared with a 34.2/45 in San Antonio.
The game will be replayed on NBA TV today at 9 a.m.
