Cypress Open Has Strong Field of Arabians

Six of the nine Arabians entered in the $14,000 Cypress Open tonight are coming off wins, and three have won two in a row entering the 4 1/2-furlong contest.

Phine And Dandy, a Florida-bred trained by Felix Payne, won the Shamrock at 9-1 on March 13, then came back to take an allowance as the 13-10 favorite three weeks later. Move Over has won his last pair impressively after failing to get close in the first two starts of his career. Mickeys Toys will be racing for the first time since consecutive wins at Sacramento and Fresno in the fall.

Shots in the dark: Melodys Red drops in class in the fifth. Max Chick, a son of Chicks Beduino, makes his debut for trainer Juan Aleman in the seventh.
