Wounded Alleged Robber Held at Hospital
A man who allegedly shot a jewelry store owner in the chest during a botched holdup in Encino was arrested later at a hospital when he sought treatment for a gunshot wound he suffered when the owner shot him, police said Thursday.
Theodore Hasan, 47, of Ontario was booked on suspicion of attempted murder and held in lieu of $500,000 bail, said Los Angeles Police Officer Jason Lee.
Store owner Sahag Ohannessian, 63, of Encino shot his assailant during the Tuesday robbery attempt, police said, adding that the merchant is hospitalized in stable condition.
The robber entered Pascal Jewelers & Watches on Ventura Boulevard about 11 a.m. posing as a customer, Lee said. When the man pointed a semiautomatic gun at an employee, Ohannessian opened fire on the robber, the officer said.
The intruder struggled with Ohannessian over the merchant’s gun, and the owner was shot during the scuffle, Lee said. Police said the robber fled the store with Ohannessian’s weapon and left the scene with two other men in a black SUV.
About 3:30 p.m., police were notified that a man later identified as Hasan had been dropped off at a hospital, Lee said.
