‘Super Size’ guy signs book deal

Morgan Spurlock, whose documentary “Super Size Me” grossed nearly $2 million in its first two weeks of release, has signed a book deal with G.P. Putnam’s Sons to expand upon the film’s droll critique of the fast-food industry and its ill effects on the health of Americans. The nonfiction book is scheduled to be published in early 2005.

For the film, Spurlock consumed nothing but McDonald’s food for 30 days and documented its detrimental impact on his own health. He and the film first garnered attention in January at the Sundance Film Festival, where he won the best director award.

The film also benefited from the publicity generated in March when McDonald’s announced it would be phasing out its trademark Super Size French fries and drinks.
