White Sox Run It Up to Beat Twins

The Chicago White Sox punctuated their successful trip to Minneapolis with a rout.

Carlos Lee had four hits and drove in six runs, and Miguel Olivo and Juan Uribe hit consecutive homers in an eight-run fourth inning to lead the Chicago White Sox over the Twins, 17-7, Sunday.

“To come to Minnesota and play the way we did, it’s just fun leaving this town,” White Sox Manager Ozzie Guillen said.

Aaron Rowand also had four hits, including a three-run homer, and scored four times for the White Sox, who took three of four in the series to move into a tie with the Twins for first place in the Central Division. The White Sox scored 35 runs in their three wins.

Uribe, Magglio Ordonez and Olivo each had three hits and every starter had at least one hit for the White Sox, who set season highs for runs scored and hits (23).

Seattle 3, Detroit 1 -- Freddy Garcia pitched seven strong innings at Seattle, leading the Mariners to their third victory in 14 games.

Garcia (2-3) held the Tigers to four hits and struck out seven. He became the third Seattle starter with two wins and lowered his earned-run average to 2.71, second-best in the American League.

Boston 7, Toronto 2 -- David Ortiz had three hits and three RBIs, Tim Wakefield pitched seven solid innings and the Red Sox completed a three-game sweep at Fenway Park. Wakefield (4-2) gave up two runs and seven hits, all singles.

The win was the seventh in nine games for the Red Sox. The Blue Jays have lost five in a row on the road and are 8-14 away from SkyDome.

Oakland 3, Kansas City 2 -- Eric Byrnes singled in the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning and the Athletics completed their second three-game sweep of the Royals in a week. Byrnes hit a blooper down the right-field line off Nate Field (2-1) to drive in Bobby Crosby.

New York 8, Texas 3 -- Enrique Wilson homered and drove in three runs, helping the Yankees avoid a three-game sweep in Alex Rodriguez’s return to Arlington, Texas.

Tampa Bay 5, Cleveland 4 -- Tino Martinez’s bases-loaded single in the bottom of the 10th inning gave the Devil Rays their first four-game winning streak of the season. The Indians have lost five in a row for the second time this season.
