Two Laguna Beach boys, each within a week of his 17th birthday, were identified Saturday as the victims killed in a traffic crash in Dana Point on Friday.

Maxwell Sadler, 16, was driving a Mercedes-Benz on Pacific Coast Highway near Ritz Carlton Drive about 8:30 p.m. when it veered into oncoming traffic and collided with an SUV, said sheriff’s spokesman Jim Amormino.

Sadler, who would have turned 17 today, died early Saturday at Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo, Amormino said.

His passenger, Mark Tiner, who turned 17 last week, died at the scene, Amormino said.

The sport utility vehicle’s driver and a 13-year-old female passenger, both of Dana Point, were hospitalized with injuries that were not life-threatening, Amormino said.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Also on Saturday, the California Highway Patrol identified Harjot Wasu, 19, of Rancho Santa Margarita as the victim of a single-vehicle crash Friday night in south Orange County.

Wasu was killed after his pickup struck a fire hydrant at Meandering Trail and Crestview, a CHP spokesman said.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
