Helping hand for arson victims

It’s not often that the L.A. and Seattle club worlds come together. But they’re doing so later this month to benefit the Giampino family, members of Seattle’s club and music community whose home was recently torched by an arsonist.

On Nov. 16, L.A.’s the Echo is holding a fundraiser for marketing-promotions director Scott Giampino; his wife, Ali; and their 3-year-old son, Max, who lost everything but their lives in the fire. The night will feature L.A. bands covering some favorite artists: the 88 performing Bob Dylan’s “Highway 61 Revisited”; Kennedy blitzing its way through the first Ramones record; All Hours paying tribute to Lou Reed; and Bedroom Walls performing Belle & Sebastian. It will be an 18-and-older event and the cover is $7, so come make the Giampino family’s season bright....

Those who like their oceans clean came out to the Viper Room in West Hollywood on Friday night, where L.A. band Whitestarr -- fresh off a Kid Rock tour -- headlined the third annual Battle for De Beach. The event raised money for the Malibu chapter of the Surfrider Foundation.

The naughty and the nice

Santa Monica Boulevard in WeHo was the place to be on Halloween, as thousands turned out to see such exceptional costumes as a troupe of Ghostbusters, Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion ghouls on stilts and way too many men in their knickers.... In more Halloween news, Saturday’s naughty bash at Nacional in Hollywood turned into a birthday party for actor Eddie Kaye Thomas (“American Pie”). And such actor pals as Chris Klein, Katie Holmes, Michael Rosenbaum and skater Tara Lipinski turned out to cheer him on.... The Troubadour is hosting a shindig Nov. 16 for actress-singer Minnie Driver, who will perform songs from her debut album, “Everything I’ve Got in My Pocket.” Hey, that’s entertainment.
