With Heat on, Shaq closes deal

Shaquille O’Neal, traded by the Lakers during the summer to the Miami Heat, and his wife, Shaunie, have sold their Beverly Hills-area house to a Japanese rock star and his wife for $6.4 million, according to public records.

The asking price had been reduced from $7.5 million in June to $6.5 million.

The former L.A. Lakers center, 32, had owned the home since 1997. The house, built in 1993, was completely remodeled by the O’Neals. The home, on slightly more than an acre in a gated community, has seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms in about 12,500 square feet.

Other features include a movie theater with a video game area and a wet bar, city-to-ocean views, an elevator, an office, built-in fish tanks, a recording studio and a gym. The tennis court was converted into a sports court and extra parking.

The buyers are Kyosuke Himuro, vocalist for the Japanese rock band Boowy, and his wife, Tama.

Jordan Cohen had the listing at Re/Max Olson Estates Brokerage, Westlake Village. Leah Steuer of Prudential-John Aaroe, Beverly Hills, represented the buyers with Masato Suzuki and Keiko Kikuta, both with Coldwell Banker, Westwood.

Actor is now the boy next door

Matthew McConaughey, who costarred with Jennifer Lopez in “The Wedding Planner,” has purchased a property next door to his Hollywood Hills home for $1.3 million.

The flat, half-acre lot has a house with a pool on it. The house, built in the ‘50s, is in need of refurbishing. It could be used as a guesthouse, or it could be razed and replaced with a tennis court.

McConaughey purchased his current residence in 2003 for the same amount. The house, also built in the ‘50s, had three bedrooms and three baths in 2,300 square feet.

The house he just bought is a few years older and has two bedrooms and one bathroom in 1,300 square feet.

McConaughey, who turned 35 on Thursday, co-starred with Kate Hudson in the 2003 comedy film “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.” He stars with Penelope Cruz and Steve Zahn in the movie “Sahara,” scheduled for release in March. McConaughey plays a secret agent and treasure hunter in the film.

Vixen buys witch’s hideout in Hills

Rachael Bilson, who plays teen vixen Summer Roberts in the Fox series “The O.C.,” has purchased the Hollywood Hills home of Rose McGowan, who plays one of three witches in the WB series “Charmed.” The selling price was $1.2 million.

The house Bilson, 23, bought has three bedrooms and three bathrooms in 2,200 square feet. The gated, Spanish-style home, built in the ‘20s, has an outdoor spa, a rooftop patio, a steam shower and a newly built kitchen with stainless steel appliances. The grounds have tropical landscaping with city and mountain views.

McGowan, 29, has relocated in the hills.

Adrienne Kessler of Prudential-John Aaroe, Beverly Hills, had the listing, and Maria Kurt at Coldwell Banker, La Canada, represented Bilson.

Restaurateur picks Beverly Park

British restaurateur Kenneth Todd and his wife and business partner, Lisa Vanderpump, an actress, have purchased a home in the gated community of Beverly Park, overlooking Beverly Hills, for $14 million. The sellers are entrepreneur Sam Delug and wife Rosette.

The French Normandy-style home, built in 1996, has seven bedrooms and 10 bathrooms in about 15,500 square feet. Situated on slightly more than three acres, the estate features a 2,500-square-foot master suite, an upstairs lounging area for the six additional bedroom suites, a tennis court, pool, topiary gardens and park-like grounds. There is also a 2,500-bottle wine cellar that cost an estimated $1 million to build.

In September, Todd and his wife sold seven bars that they owned in the West End of London in a deal reported to be worth about $28 million. Vanderpump appeared in “Baywatch” during the mid-’90s.

Marty Trugman of Coldwell Banker Previews, Beverly Hills East, had the listing on the home, and Martin Genis of Platinum Properties represented the buyers.

Wayne’s widow lists home on bay

Pilar Wayne Upchurch, widow of actor John Wayne, has listed her bay-front home in Newport Beach at just under $4 million.

The house has three bedrooms and 2 1/2 bathrooms in about 2,300 square feet. It is on 60 feet of bay frontage and has a shared dock for a large yacht. The contemporary Mediterranean has a cantilevered deck with a fountain, built-in barbecue and cooking area. The dining room has a glass ceiling.

Upchurch, an artist known for her seascapes and signature portraits of her late husband and other celebrities, married Jesse L. Upchurch, a travel industry executive, in 1998. They had her Newport Beach home refurbished in 1999 and since then have split their time between California and Texas.

John Wayne died at 72 in 1979, before his wife bought this house. He and Pilar were married for more than 25 years and had three children.
