Glaus Still Likes Third
Troy Glaus, first baseman?
Even though several teams, including the New York Mets and Baltimore Orioles, are believed to have expressed interest in acquiring the free-agent third baseman and moving him across the infield, the agent for Glaus said it was unlikely that his client would consent to switching positions.
“His preference is to play third,” said Mike Nicotera, Glaus’ agent. “If the right situation came along and everything was great about the fit, he may consider playing first. But at this point, the clubs with whom we’ve spoken in the most depth and have made offers have been for third base jobs.”
Seattle, Detroit, Milwaukee and Boston reportedly are interested in Glaus as a third baseman, the position he played for the Angels before suffering a major shoulder injury in May. Glaus returned from surgery in late August as a designated hitter.
The Dodgers might be interested in Glaus if they are unable to re-sign free-agent third baseman Adrian Beltre.
Nicotera said Glaus recently had his shoulder examined by a specialist and is expected to play third base without any restrictions in spring training. Glaus, who finished the season batting .251 with 18 homers and 42 RBIs in 58 games, is scheduled to start a throwing program next week.
