Twins Fall in the Finale, Get Date With Yankees

Ben Broussard hit a two-run home run to lift the Cleveland Indians to a 5-2 victory at Minneapolis over the American League Central-champion Minnesota Twins, who start the playoffs against AL East winner New York on Tuesday at Yankee Stadium.

Twenty minutes before the originally scheduled game began, the Twins beat the Indians, 6-5, in 12 innings to finish Saturday’s suspended game.

Michael Cuddyer’s two-out double drove in Jason Bartlett from first base to end it.

Texas 3, Seattle 0 -- Ichiro Suzuki got two singles for the host Mariners, and Edgar Martinez grounded into a double play in the last at-bat of his career.

Suzuki pushed his major league record for hits in a season to 262. He led the majors with a .372 batting average and won his second AL hitting title.

Martinez, hitless in four at-bats, finished with a .312 career average in 18 seasons, all with Seattle.

Baltimore 3, Boston 2 -- Miguel Tejada drove in his major league-leading 150th run to lead the Orioles at Baltimore.

Johnny Damon’s double in the fourth inning was Boston’s 373rd, matching a major league season record.

New York 3, Toronto 2 -- Bernie Williams hit a tiebreaking homer against Josh Towers (9-9) in the top of the eighth inning.

The Yankees finished 101-61, joining Atlanta (1997-99), Baltimore (1969-71) and the Philadelphia Athletics (1929-31) as the only teams with three consecutive 100-victory seasons.

Chicago 5, Kansas City 0 -- Jose Contreras (13-9) took a no-hit bid into the seventh inning, and the White Sox helped the host Royals (58-104) set a team record for losses.

Tampa Bay 7, Detroit 4 -- Matt Diaz hit a two-run triple in a four-run third inning at Detroit, and the Devil Rays set a franchise record with their 70th victory.
