Jane Park of Rancho Cucamonga, the winner of golf’s U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship in August, said Monday that she had committed to defending NCAA champion UCLA.

Park had contemplated skipping college and turning professional, but she said she wanted to give college a try for at least a year.

“My dad wanted me to turn pro, but I really wanted to go to college,” Park said.

Jennie Lee of Huntington Beach Edison, the No. 5-ranked girls’ golfer in the nation, has committed to Duke. She picked the Blue Devils over Arizona and UCLA.

Temple City christened Robert Hitchcock Stadium in a ceremony Friday after its 39-30 loss to La Canada. Under Robert Hitchcock, who coached from 1960 to 1981, the school won 196 games, including 46 in a row, seven section championships and 11 Rio Hondo League titles.

Temple City could use some Hitchcock magic, as the Rams are 1-5.

Bell Gardens forfeited its first three games of the season -- victories over Bell, Pico Rivera El Rancho and Cerritos Gahr -- because of an ineligible player, a Southern Section spokesman said. Bell Gardens goes from 5-1 to 2-4 overall but is 1-0 in the Almont League. Bell improves to 2-4, El Rancho to 4-2 and Gahr to 2-4.
