Artwork from the forest and the trees

For award-winning floral designer and floral artist Julie Anne Gibson, it all began with a gift from her artist husband, Jim. Following a romantic bike or trail ride near their Arizona desert home, he would present her with flowers or pretty leaves. A florist by trade, Julie Anne began pressing and framing the natural tokens with a quick-drying process she developed to preserve their color. Soon a passionate business was born. She and Jim press more than 20 different floral elements, seal them with polycarbon and mount them on dehydrating board to stabilize the natural beauty. More artwork, including tables, boxes and mirrors, can be seen at www.pressed flowerartist .com, but they’re sold in Los Angeles exclusively at Teraine, the Pacific Palisades boutique owned by Janet Greenblatt. Teraine features items including a single “Julie Anne” bloom in a 5-by-7-inch frame ($50) and wall-sized arrangements of red maple leaves ($3,000).
