Center Chris Kaman is expected to be sidelined one to two weeks because of a sprained left ankle, creating the possibility that the Clippers will open the season without two of their projected starters.

Guard Kerry Kittles, traded from the New Jersey Nets, has not yet practiced and is expected to open the season on the injured list, his balky right knee having limited his activity since arthroscopic surgery in June.

“Disappointing,” Coach Mike Dunleavy said of Kaman’s injury, suffered Wednesday when he stepped on teammate Bobby Simmons’ foot during an exhibition loss to the Golden State Warriors at Oakland. “Very disappointing.”

Kaman told Dunleavy he hadn’t sprained an ankle in five years.

The Clippers open the season Wednesday night against the Seattle SuperSonics at Staples Center.

Trajan Langdon, Terence Morris and Kaniel Dickens were released, trimming the roster to 14 players, among them journeyman point guard Rick Brunson, the only one of the 14 without a guaranteed contract.

Brunson, however, won’t officially make the team until the Clippers submit their season-opening roster before Monday’s 3 p.m. deadline.

“Right now it looks pretty good,” said Brunson, who was undrafted but has played seven seasons in the NBA with five teams, among them the Portland Trail Blazers when Dunleavy was their coach. “But you’ve got to keep working.”
