Bellagio extends ‘Monet’ show

“Claude Monet: Masterworks From the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston,” a controversial exhibition at the Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art in Las Vegas, was scheduled to close at the end of August, but it has been extended to Jan. 9 -- with a few changes.

Beginning Sept. 18, five of the Monet paintings, which have been promised to other exhibitions, will be replaced by the work of French Impressionists Edouard Manet, Camille Pissarro, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Paul Cezanne and Alfred Sisley.

The Monet show has raised questions about the propriety of a museum renting works from its collection to a commercial establishment at a hotel-casino, but the public has lined up to see it. The gallery reports an attendance of nearly 250,000 during the first seven months.
