Use Muscles, Not Water

Share

Pet peeve: I passed a house with a man hosing dead leaves out from a picket fence. Ninety minutes later he was still at it. A neighbor hoses the driveway and sidewalk almost daily. Many stores and apartment buildings hose down their sidewalks daily. The man with the picket fence would have done much better with a rake; the others should use a broom. All that stuff they didn’t want could then be picked up and deposited in a trash receptacle instead of pushed into the storm drains, eventually polluting our beaches. That certainly is not the best use of drinking water. Some of the water remains in the street and storm drains, providing a perfect place for mosquito larvae, lest we forget the West Nile virus.
