Mickelson Signs With Callaway

Masters champion Phil Mickelson has signed an endorsement contract with Callaway Golf to use its driver, fairway woods and golf ball, just one week before Mickelson plays in the Ryder Cup.

The deal, said to be for six years at $7 million to $10 million annually, was announced Tuesday and comes just one day after Mickelson officially ended his association with Titleist, which released him from the final 16 months of his five-year contract.

Mickelson had sought a long-term extension from Titleist after he won the Masters, which he considered a bargaining advantage, but he gauged there was not enough interest.

The 34-year-old Mickelson, ranked No. 4, has won 23 times on the PGA Tour and has made $5.6 million this year. He will compete in the Bell Canadian Open this week and for the first time in a tournament play the Callaway prototype Fusion driver, the prototype HX Tour ball and the Big Bertha 3-wood and 4-wood.

A spokesman for Callaway Golf said Mickelson will work with club designer Roger Cleveland on developing irons, wedges and putters that eventually will be added to his bag.
