Kenny Buttrey, 59; Drummer Recorded Hits With Dylan, Others
Kenny Buttrey, 59, a drummer who recorded hits with Bob Dylan, Neil Young and Jimmy Buffett, died Sunday of cancer at his home in the Nashville suburb of Bellevue.
A native of Nashville, Buttrey worked much of his career as a session player in that city’s recording studios, working in several music genres, including country, pop, rock, R&B; and folk.
Buttrey provided percussion for albums including Dylan’s “Nashville Skyline” and “Blonde on Blonde,” as well as Young’s “Harvest.” His work can also be heard on Buffett’s “Margaritaville.”
“He told me the other day that the two songs that were his favorites were ‘Lay Lady Lay’ with Bob Dylan and ‘Heart of Gold’ with Neil Young,” Cheri Buttrey, his wife of 20 years, told Associated Press.
