Laughing matters

Eric McCORMACK [Letters, Sept. 12] attempted to refute the complaint of Paul Brownfield regarding canned laugh tracks on TV sitcoms.

I watched a taping of “Frasier” last year and was particularly aware of the weak laughter some of the jokes got. When I saw the aired show, the audience’s response seemed significantly greater. True, the laughter now comes from a live audience, but the audio engineers “sweeten” the effect by pumping up the laugh volume.

I think the truth lies somewhere between the positions of Brownfield and McCormack.
