Frank Gore and Tyrone Moss combined for three touchdowns, leading No. 4 Miami to a 48-0 victory over Louisiana Tech on Saturday.

The Hurricanes, coming off a huge win against in-state and conference rival Florida State, certainly didn’t have a letdown.

This was a beat down.

Gore ran 12 times for 61 yards and scored a touchdown early in the third quarter before sitting out much of the second half. Moss had 69 yards in seven carries and scored twice in the first quarter.

And Devin Hester, perhaps the Hurricanes’ most electrifying player, returned two punts for touchdowns of 51 and 92 yards.

“You don’t have to be too smart to figure out he’s going to be pretty special,” Miami Coach Larry Coker said. “He’s so fast, so explosive. He makes fast people look slow.”

Miami (2-0), which held the Seminoles to 165 yards last week, was even more impressive defensively against Louisiana Tech (2-1). The Hurricanes finished with six sacks and three forced fumbles and gave up only 183 yards in 61 plays.

Ryan Moats, the nation’s leading rusher who gained 257 yards in each of his first two games, carried 14 times for 81 yards and fumbled once. He had 70 yards in seven attempts in the first quarter but did little after the Hurricanes adjusted.

“We rushed them a lot, we blitzed them a lot,” cornerback Antrel Rolle said. “Our defensive line was in their backfield all night.”

No. 8 Florida State 34, Alabama Birmingham 7 -- Leon Washington ran for 104 yards and a touchdown and the Seminoles (1-1) sacked Darrell Hackney eight times in a victory over the Blazers (1-1) at Tallahassee, Fla.

B.J. Dean, James Coleman and Chris Rix scored on one-yard runs and Xavier Beitia kicked two field goals for Florida State.

Florida State had 489 yards in offense and didn’t punt until late in the fourth quarter.

In addition to getting to Hackney for 54 yards in losses, the Florida State defense limited UAB to 144 total yards and a minus-24 yards rushing.

No. 12 Virginia 51, Akron 0 -- Wali Lundy ran for three touchdowns for the third straight game and Marques Hagans threw two scoring passes to Heath Miller to lead the Cavaliers (3-0) to a rout of the Zips (0-3) at Charlottesville, Va.

The Virginia defense held Akron to 84 yards in 58 plays and six first downs.

Lundy gained 142 yards in 22 carries before he and Hagans left the game in the third quarter.

North Carolina 34, Georgia Tech 13 -- Jacque Lewis rushed for a career-high 161 yards and two touchdowns and the Tar Heels (2-1, 1-1) used a stingy defense to handle the Yellow Jackets (2-1, 1-1) in an ACC game at Chapel Hill, N.C.

It was North Carolina’s first victory over Georgia Tech since 1997.

Virginia Tech 41, Duke 17 -- Bryan Randall ran for one touchdown and passed for another to lead the Hokies (2-1, 1-0) over the Blue Devils (0-3, 0-1) at Blacksburg, Va.

It was Virginia Tech’s first ACC game since becoming a member of the conference.

Wake Forest 42, North Carolina A&T; 3 -- Micah Andrews rushed for 125 yards and three touchdowns in his first college game, and the Demon Deacons (2-1) routed the Aggies (1-2) at Winston-Salem, N.C.
