Getting culture comes at a price

First came the $10 movie ticket. Now get ready for a $20 museum admission.

When New York City’s Museum of Modern Art reopens its expanded Midtown home in November, an adult admission will cost $20, 67% more than the previous $12 fee.

Industry experts say that’s an unprecedented level for an urban museum and the highest tab in New York City.

MoMA isn’t alone. The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum is jacking up the cost of an adult ticket to $18 from $15 for its upcoming four-month exhibit on the Aztec Empire because it’s an “extraordinarily expensive show,” spokesman Anthony Calnek said.
