City snobbery

I don’t know where Kevin Crust is from or what his sensibilities are, but when he says that finding out just how upset the people of Riverside, Iowa, become when they learn that they’ve been fooled on William Shatner’s new televisionshow “promises to be entertaining,” it catapults him into the same cruel class as Shatner and everyone involved in “Invasion Iowa” [“Hollywood Prank on the Heartland,” March 29].

Why are the good folks of Riverside “asking for it” simply because they’re excited to have a celebrity in their town? I have not seen “Invasion Iowa,” but the entire premise of this show is beyond mean-spirited; it’s despicable, and that a critic from a major daily gives this show a reserved thumbs-up and evidently takes perverse pleasure in seeing how hurt these folks become says more about how far our urban culture has fallen, how mean it has become, than the show itself.
