Could the Theme Be Cost Savings?

March 12’s delightful editorials socking it to France must have been a big success, since you returned with four editorials on the subject of food (“Fast-Food Nation,” March 26). My wife and I have been speculating about possible lines of thinking that led your editorial board to adopt this novel strategy. My hypothesis is that you are reaping a weekly cost saving through an economy of scale. Several editorials on a single general subject must surely cost less to produce than essays on distinct topics. But then, connecting your new focus on literary cost efficiency with your editorial about the off-site center for the voice at the McDonald’s drive-thru, I wondered: Where are these cut-rate editorials being written anyway?
