Supervisors Vote to Buy Private Prison
San Bernardino County will pay $28 million to buy a private prison in Adelanto that it had leased to house its growing inmate population.
Supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday to purchase the prison, which can hold up to 660 inmates.
The county will take over the 13-acre property in October.
In January, the county had leased the Victor Valley Medium Community Corrections Facility, which now lodges state inmates, for 10 years.
Supervisors on Tuesday allotted $3 million for repairs.
Last month, they approved hiring 55 deputies to run the facility.
