Mexico Returns Suspect in 2000 Slaying
A man accused of murdering an Orange County teenager and then fleeing to Tijuana was returned to Santa Ana on Thursday after serving five years in a Mexican prison for possessing a weapon, police said.
Manuel “Manny” Salas, 25, of Anaheim allegedly fatally shot Robert Ornales, 16, on April 1, 2000, Santa Ana police Sgt. Lorenzo Carrillo said.
Salas also wounded another boy, also 16, police said.
The shooting occurred while a group of friends had gathered to watch television at a Santa Ana home.
Salas was booked Thursday on suspicion of murder.
