Golden Gate Bridge Toll Plaza to Be Patrolled

From Times Wire Reports

An armed guard will patrol the Golden Gate Bridge toll plaza while officials decide on permanent security measures in the wake of the April 9 shooting of a toll collector.

“It serves as a confidence booster for the toll collectors, knowing someone is there,” said bridge district spokeswoman Mary Currie. A female toll taker was shot in the neck and chest during a robbery by a man driving a stolen car, according to police. The driver, who fled on foot, was shot in a leg and arrested, police said.

The toll taker is recovering from her injuries.

Other than added guards, officials are considering bulletproof glass in toll booths.
