A former Mattel Inc. executive has pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles to lying to the Federal Election Commission, indicating that campaign contributions were made by relatives and other individuals when, in fact, they were paid for by the company.
Fermin Cuza, 57, the company’s former vice president of international trade and government relations, faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
Prosecutors said Cuza oversaw $102,000 in donations to the campaign committees of 31 California-based candidates for state and federal offices between 1997 and 2000.
