From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Firefighters battled a wildfire Monday that blackened at least 120 acres in Canyon Country and came dangerously close to a dog kennel. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

Downed power lines sparked the fire, which began shortly after 1:30 p.m. off Sierra Highway, said county fire Inspector John Mancha. It was 70% contained by 6 p.m.

Erratic winds initially made it difficult for firefighters who battled the blaze from the air and on the ground as they sought to protect the kennel property, which contained about 500 dogs.
