Illegal marijuana cultivation [“War of the Weed,” Aug. 9] is yet another problem in our national parks that is exacerbated by a chronic lack of funding. Until Congress and the administration address the parks’ funding needs, the safety of rangers and visitors will remain at risk.

Let me see if I’ve got this straight: Park rangers don’t have time to go after marijuana growers who steal water, use weapons and otherwise wreak havoc in national parks, but they do have time to write tickets for dogs off-leash. Very bad priority-setting.

Your story on marijuana crops in national parks failed to include a single voice skeptical of the war on drugs. Anyone from a number of groups could have lent a useful perspective.
