Northwest Airlines Corp., one week into a mechanics strike, said that its operations were normal and that its replacement staff and outside vendors had done a good job of keeping the airline flying.

The No. 4 U.S. carrier has seen no significant service disruptions related to the strike and, in fact, has managed to work through a maintenance backlog that occurred in the days preceding the work stoppage, said Andy Roberts, Northwest’s executive vice president of operations.

As of Friday, Northwest was completing 98.2% of its scheduled flights, compared with 91% the previous Friday. Roberts said delays and cancellations in recent days were the result of weather, not the strike.
