Bradley Gets No Sympathy From Readers

Share

So Milton Bradley thinks Jeff Kent can’t deal with African Americans? Sounds more like Kent can’t deal with asinine Americans.

Milton Bradley is upset that we don’t understand that he just wants to play baseball, have fun, be a nice guy and feed his kids. Don’t dare judge him on his performance -- his stats are of no importance (13 home runs and 38 runs batted in prove that). I’m sure he made the Dodgers aware of this philosophy when he signed his contract.

By making the claim that “Jeff Kent doesn’t know how to deal with African Americans,” Milton Bradley not only played the race card, he pulled it out from under the table and from between his toes.

As a black man and die-hard Dodger fan, it angers me when an insufferable boob like Bradley tries to excuse his childish behavior by blaming it on racism.

So Jeff Kent can’t get along with Barry Bonds or Milton Bradley. It seems to me he has a problem dealing with self-centered jerks rather than African Americans.

How can Milton Bradley think anyone would take his comment about Jeff Kent seriously, given this is the same Milton Bradley who less than a year ago referred to an African American reporter for The Times as an “Uncle Tom.”

Milton Bradley will have bruised feelings as long as he continues to focus on black and not Dodger Blue.

Milton proudly points out that while he was on first base, he ran full speed on a two-out pop-up. Isn’t that what he is supposed to do? I would assume he would give 100% on every play, considering he is paid millions of dollars a year.

Yo, Milton Bradley: It’s quite possible to hustle and feed your family at the same time. In fact, that’s what you’re paid a lot of cash to do. Jeff Kent may not be the nicest guy in the clubhouse. Personally, I have no desire to ever hang out with him. But he knows how to play this game, he produces every year and, perhaps more important, he has a proven track record of winning. You have a lot to prove and, sadly, even more to learn.

As much as I respect Jeff Kent as a ballplayer, and as much as I admit, intellectually, that professionals must behave as professionals, my heart goes out to Milton Bradley. Reading that he was close to tears when he addressed reporters made me realize that there’s more to this game than bubblegum cards, autographs and glory.

Bradley is a proud African American (one of only two on the Dodgers), who has come a long way in a short time in dealing with some serious and well publicized anger-management issues. I say we cut him some slack.

The Dodgers kept Milton Bradley and let Lo Duca, Green, and Beltre go. What more needs to be said?

Jeff Kent has impressed me as thoroughly unlikable in each interview I’ve had occasion to see of him, but Bradley is in a class by himself. Kent may be boorish, but Bradley is obviously a walking time bomb.

To the 40,000-plus who still attend Dodger games: I’m speechless.

I just hope the Jeff Kent-Milton Bradley feud doesn’t slow the Dodgers’ relentless pursuit of getting to within 10 games of the .500 mark.

It’s great that Kent and Bradley are having problems. Otherwise, there would be nothing interesting to read about the Dodgers.
