Grove’s show may hit the road

Grove Theater Center will leave its home of 11 years, the Gem Theater in Garden Grove, while its leaders try to iron out a new roving-theater concept called “The Grid” that would establish GTC as a small regional company with a regular circuit of venues in Southern California.

“Cities all over California have big empty spaces they don’t know what to do with,” said Charles Johanson, GTC’s executive director, and he and artistic director Kevin Cochran aim to mount six touring shows each season that would touch down in three or four cities.

The company, which won an Ovation Award this year for “Blake ... Da Musical!,” exits Garden Grove on June 30, but will continue to produce shows at its remaining venue, GTC Burbank, while working to debut the Grid concept by 2007.
