The United Auto Workers said its leadership has unanimously endorsed a deal with Ford Motor Co. that would cut the automaker’s annual healthcare expense by $850 million.

The Ford agreement was closely patterned after the October deal between the union and General Motors Corp., UAW President Ron Gettelfinger said.

Voting on the pact, which is subject to ratification by the UAW rank and file, is expected to end next Thursday.
