Don’t Give Colletti an A for This One

Share

The Dodgers pulled off another brilliant trade. I can see how the conversation went:

Ned Colletti: Zito for Bradley.

Billy Beane: A minor league loser, er, prospect for Bradley.

Ned: Zito for Bradley.

Billy: A Texas League MVP for Bradley.

Ned: Zito for Bradley.

Billy: Potential mega-star for Bradley and I don’t know ... Perez?

Ned: Zito for Bradley.

Billy: Future All-Star for Bradley and Perez.

Ned: Zito for Bradley.

Billy: The greatest Dodger of all time for Bradley and Perez. Oh, did I mention he was cheap?

Ned: Done!

Frank McCourt wanted a general manager with strong communication skills and in Ned Colletti he found someone who spoke with neither Milton Bradley nor Jeff Kent before shipping Bradley to Oakland. What this continues to communicate to Dodger fans is that Dodger management doesn’t know what it’s doing.

Milton Bradley is quoted as saying: “The greatest time I had was the playoff season [2004]. Everything was working. I didn’t mess up any clubhouse. I came in and added to the clubhouse.”

What nonsense! Does Bradley think that getting suspended for the last five games of the year doesn’t “mess up the clubhouse?” Does he think that calling Times sportswriter Jason Reid an “Uncle Tom” and causing a shouting match in the clubhouse just hours before a playoff game doesn’t “mess up the clubhouse?”

Apparently Bradley has lost more than his temper; he has lost his ability to reason.

With the departure of Milton Bradley, will the Dodgers now feel secure enough to place their players’ names back on to their uniforms?

You have to feel sorry for Milton Bradley. By continuing to blame others -- in this case, Jeff Kent -- instead of taking responsibility for his own actions, Milton has shown that he is far from resolving his problems. Hope the Oakland A’s can influence him, otherwise he is destined to go from team to team until no one will have him.

The Dodgers have signed Bill Mueller and offered a contract to J.T. Snow. With Jeff Kent already here, is it possible that Colletti’s next big bat is Barry Bonds?

Why are we waiting for the so-called Dodger farm team to grow up? I would rather pay to see them grow than pay for old Giants. Where are the real Dodgers?

On the news of a Dodger invite to Roger Clemens, this just in:

Ned Colletti, under orders from owner Frank McCourt, has just informed the agents of Cy Young, Rico Petrocelli, Luis Tiant, Jimmy Foxx, Carl Yastrzemski, Carlton Fisk, Pedro Borbon, Tony Conigliaro and Jim Rice that he is interested in signing them to fat Dodger contracts.

The Dodgers are also in touch with Ted Williams’ agents at Alcor International, and they’re estimating the slugger’s head will be brought back to life to don a Dodger cap by the 2029 season.
