Redick, Paulus Make Dynamic Duo for Duke

J.J. Redick scored 30 points and Greg Paulus set a school freshman record with 15 assists as No. 1 Duke beat Valparaiso, 104-77, Sunday night at Durham, N.C.

Shelden Williams added 19 points and 11 rebounds for the Blue Devils, who improved to 10-0 for the fifth time in six seasons.

Paulus broke the freshman record of 13 assists shared by Bobby Hurley, Jason Williams and Chris Duhon.

Paulus came within an assist of tying the school record owned by Hurley, who finished his career as the nation’s career assists leader.

Dan Oppland scored 25 points for the Crusaders (4-3).

No. 2 Connecticut 86, New Hampshire 44 -- Rudy Gay had 22 points to lead the Huskies (8-0) past the Wildcats (2-8) at Hartford, Conn. Blagoj Janev led the Wildcats with 24 points.

No. 7 Florida 101, Jacksonville 58 -- Corey Brewer had the first triple-double in Florida history with 15 points, 10 rebounds and 13 assists and the Gators (10-0) matched the school’s best start at Gainesville, Fla.

Aubrey Conerly had 13 points for Jacksonville (1-6).

No. 9 Illinois 61, Coppin State 42 -- James Augustine scored 15 points and the Illini (11-0) broke the game open with an 18-4 run in the second half at Champaign, Ill. Augustine also had nine rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Darryl Proctor scored 14 points for the Eagles (0-8).

No. 12 Michigan State 85, Florida International 58 -- Shannon Brown scored 20 points and two of his Spartan teammates had double-doubles at East Lansing, Mich.

Maurice Ager had 18 points, all but two in the second half, and a career-high 14 rebounds for the Spartans (9-2), while Paul Davis added 18 points and 11 rebounds in Michigan State’s eighth straight win.

Elvis Lora had 12 points for Florida International (3-5).

No. 13 Boston College 80, Texas Southern 53 -- Jared Dudley had 25 points and 10 rebounds and Sean Marshall scored a season-high 19 points at Boston as the Eagles (7-2) ended a two-game losing streak.

Jacques Jones had 18 points and nine rebounds for Texas Southern (2-8).

No. 21 North Carolina State State 81, Miami 69 -- Cameron Bennerman had a season-high 19 points for the Wolfpack (8-1) at Raleigh, N.C., in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both teams.

Guillermo Diaz had 19 points for Miami (6-4).
