Pepperdine Eases to First Road Win

Pepperdine’s Michael Gerrity scored 19 points, Tashaan Forehan-Kelly added 18 and the Waves shot 68% in the second half Thursday afternoon to beat Nevada Las Vegas, 75-61, at the Thomas & Mack Center.

Pepperdine went on a 14-8 run over the final 3:46, including seven of 12 from the free-throw line, in winning for the first time on the road in seven games this season.

The Waves (3-7) held a 48-32 rebounding edge and limited UNLV (4-6) to 34% shooting, 24% in the first half.

Louis Amundson, who leads the Rebels in scoring and rebounding, fouled out with six minutes left, and had seven points and eight rebounds.

Western Michigan 62, Loyola Marymount 61 -- Joe Reitz made the game-winning basket at the buzzer to help the Broncos (3-5) escape with a victory over the Lions (3-8) in the consolation round of the Rainbow Classic at Honolulu.

Reitz, who came in averaging 14.2 points, was held to six points, but made the winning tip-in.

Loyola Marymount (3-8) took a 60-59 lead with 42 seconds left on a baseline hook shot by Dustin Brown and went up, 61-59, on John Montgomery’s free throw with 11 seconds left.

Brian Snider then was fouled and made his first free throw before missing his tying attempt. The Broncos, however, grabbed the offensive rebound and missed a jumper before Reitz’s putback.

Stanes Dufford finished with 18 points for the Broncos. Chris Ayer led the Lions with 21 points and 10 rebounds.

Loyola Chicago 74, UC Irvine 72 -- Blake Schilb made a 15-foot shot with 3.6 seconds left to give the Ramblers (8-2) a victory over the Anteaters (4-5) at the Bren Event Center.

Schilb paced Loyola-Chicago (8-2) with 26 points. Aaron Fitzgerald scored 26 for the Anteaters (4-5).

J.R. Blount received the inbound pass with 13.4 seconds left and passed to Schilb, who took a few dribbles before making the winning shot.

Fitzgerald had the ball with about two seconds left but bobbled it and was stripped by Majak Kou as the buzzer sounded.

Long Beach State 81, Maryland Baltimore County 70 -- Jibril Hodges scored a season-high 20 points to help the 49ers (3-6) end a four-game losing streak with a victory over the Retrievers (4-6) at the Pyramid.

Shawn Hawkins added 17 points for the 49ers, who went 12 of 28 from three-point range and put the game out of reach with a 17-4 second-half run. Hodges and Hawkins scored eight apiece during the run.

Chris Pugh had 19 points for the Retrievers.
