Shame over the treatment of El-Masri
Re “America kidnapped me,” Opinion, Dec. 18
People may find this difficult to believe, but in the 20th century, the president of the United States was actually referred to as “the leader of the free world.” Under President Bush, I am ashamed to call myself an American. Khaled El-Masri, as a citizen of this once-proud nation, I am deeply sorry for what you went through at the hands of my government. I just wish I could tell you that it will never happen again.

Reading El-Masri’s story, I am outraged, as every American should be. I believe the American government has been kidnapped by the Bush administration. It is time for American citizens to start speaking up.
