The city Airport Commission voted unanimously Monday to approve a resolution calling on the City Council to require a super-majority council vote to approve a merger of the independent police force that patrols the airports with the Los Angeles Police Department.
The council is scheduled to vote Wednesday on whether to place a measure on the May 17 ballot to remove the guarantee of independence for airport police from the city’s charter.
If that measure passes, the council would have to vote separately to merge the two entities.
