Pier Paddle: The Huntington Beach Longboard Crew will play host at the annual event in which longboard surfers race around the pier. Participants need to bring their own boards. 8 a.m. Huntington Beach Pier. $5 donation to paddle; free to spectators. www.hblongboardcrew.org

Pier Plunge: The fifth annual Plaza Plunge will be held on the Huntington Beach Pier. Plunge into the new year with other jumpers and hundreds of onlookers. 10 a.m., rain or shine. Swearing In: State Chief Justice Ronald M. George will administer the oath of office to 44 Orange County Superior Court judges on the steps of the Old County Courthouse.
