Anaheim Man Slashes Siblings, Police Say
An Anaheim man dressed up as the villain from the movie “Scream” used a machete to slash his brother, sister and a family friend early Friday before he was subdued and arrested, police said.
Rodrigo Marcelo Castro, 19, wearing a dark costume, was subdued by family members when police arrived at the apartment on South Clementine Street and arrested him, said Anaheim Police Sgt. Rick Martinez.
Castro had slashed his 23-year-old brother in the face, neck and back, and his 14-year-old sister in the upper body, Martinez said.
A 20-year-old family friend was also injured in the attack, which occurred about 12:40 a.m.
The brother and sister were treated at a hospital and released.
The injured friend did not require medical treatment, Martinez said.
Owen Tucker, whose wife manages the apartment complex, said he walked into Castro’s apartment after hearing screams.
The brother, covered in blood, was sitting on top of Castro, pinning him to the living room floor.
“The older brother looked pretty bad. He had a cut on his head and neck.... I’ve never seen stuff like that close up,” Tucker said.
Castro’s mother and father were home but were not injured.
Investigators believe Castro attacked his family to attract publicity, Martinez said.
“It is our belief it was his intent to kill his entire family, and he wanted to gain some notoriety for his actions,” Martinez said.
Castro is being held at Orange County Jail on $1-million bail. His family declined to comment Friday.
