Rutgers Rallies, Tops No. 1 LSU

Cappie Pondexter scored 16 points and No. 14 Rutgers rallied from a double-digit deficit in the second half Wednesday night to knock off No. 1 Louisiana State, 51-49, in overtime for the Scarlet Knights’ third win over a top 10 team in eight days.

Chelsea Newton, who made the go-ahead basket in overtime, stole a pass at midcourt with about two seconds left to put the finishing touches on the win at Piscataway, N.J., and hand LSU (13-1) its first loss of the season.

No. 14 Rutgers (9-2) beat then-No. 8 Tennessee at home last Wednesday and then ended No. 4 Texas’ 41-game home winning streak on Sunday, rallying from an 18-point second-half deficit.

No. 3 Baylor 64, Texas A&M; 50 -- Sophia Young had 21 points and 12 rebounds and Steffanie Blackmon had 20 points for Baylor (11-1, 1-0 Big 12), which held the Aggies (9-2, 0-1) to three points in the game’s final six minutes in College Station, Texas.

No. 4 Notre Dame 75, Syracuse 58 -- Breona Gray, Teresa Borton and Megan Duffy each scored 17 points at home for Notre Dame (13-1, 2-0 Big East), which is off to its best start since opening 23-0 in 2000-01, its NCAA championship season.

No. 7 Texas 66, Kansas 51 -- Heather Schreiber scored 18 points at home for two-time defending Big 12 champion Texas (8-3, 1-0). Kansas is 7-5, 0-1.

No. 12 Texas Tech 70, Oklahoma 64 -- LaToya Davis scored 22 points at home for Texas Tech (10-2, 1-0 Big 12), and Cisti Greenwalt had 15 points and 10 rebounds. Oklahoma is 8-4, 0-1.

No. 13 Boston College 78, Georgetown 29 -- Boston College set school records for margin of victory and fewest points allowed, with Kathrin Ress scoring 15 points for the Eagles (11-1, 2-0 Big East) to help defeat Georgetown (5-7, 0-1) in Washington

Iowa St. 78, No. 20 Kansas St. 59 -- Katie Robinette and Anne O’Neil scored 21 points apiece for Iowa State (11-1, 1-0 Big 12), which used a late run to seal its home victory over Kansas State (9-3, 0-1).
