Kyocera to Cut Jobs, Move Work to Mexico

Kyocera Corp., which makes electronics and telecommunications equipment such as cellphones, will eliminate 600 jobs in San Diego by the end of March as it moves manufacturing and service operations abroad.
Shifting most of the manufacturing operations to a Kyocera plant in Tijuana will lead to the elimination of about 450 manufacturing jobs, Kyoto, Japan-based Kyocera said.
An additional 150 jobs in San Diego will be cut as more of Kyocera’s global service centers take on service and repair work, the company said. The action is aimed at speeding up repair turnaround times and curtailing shipping costs.
