Council Rejects Tribe’s Plea for Casino Site

The City Council has voted against a landless Native American tribe’s plans for turning a sprawling parking lot outside Oakland International Airport into a casino resort.

The council, with five members opposed, made its decision Tuesday despite the Lower Lake Rancheria-Koi Nation’s pledge to the city of $30 million a year for 20 years.
