George F. Moody, 74; Bank Exec Also Served on Red Cross Board

George F. Moody, former president and chief operating officer of Security Pacific National Bank, has died. He was 74.

Moody, who also served as chairman of the board of governors of the American Red Cross, died Sunday of complications from leukemia at Whittier Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital, according to his son John.

Moody oversaw all subsidiaries of Security Pacific Corp. and was a member of the board of directors from 1981 until his retirement in 1991. A year later, Security Pacific was acquired by BankAmerica Corp.

President Reagan appointed Moody to the national board of governors of the American Red Cross in 1980, and he was reappointed by President George H. W. Bush. As chairman of the organization’s board from 1985 to 1992, he oversaw a $1-billion annual budget.

A native of Riverside, Moody was a graduate of Riverside City College and joined Security Pacific in 1953.

He was appointed head of the inland division in Riverside in 1960 and regional vice president of the Los Angeles head office in 1968.

In addition to his son John, he is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Jane; sons Jeff and Joe, and a daughter, Jane. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Services are scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Friday at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Newport Beach.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the George F. Moody Memorial Fund at the American Red Cross, Rio Hondo Chapter, 6706 S. Friends Ave., Whittier, CA 90601.
