Walsh and May Back on Track
Olympic gold medalists Misty May and Kerri Walsh defeated Rachel Wacholder and Elaine Youngs in the finals of the Assn. of Volleyball Professionals Nissan Series Belmar Open.
On the men’s side, Jake Gibb and Stein Metzger beat Matt Fuerbringer and Casey Jennings, winning their third title of the season.
Wacholder and Youngs were the team that ended the 50-match winning streak of May and Walsh last weekend in Cincinnati. But May and Walsh were up to the task this time, rallying for a 24-26, 21-18, 15-13 victory.
Earlier in the day, Fuerbringer and Jennings defeated Gibb and Metzger, 21-16, 26-24. Three-time Olympic gold medalist Karch Kiraly finished fifth with his new partner Adam Jewell after losing to Gibb and Metzger, 21-19, 23-21.
The tour’s next stop will be July 21-24 at Hermosa Beach.
