Merits of maturity

Mark Swed’s unkind remarks that many of the talents who took center stage at the Hollywood Bowl to celebrate the genius of Stephen Sondheim are not as powerful as they used to be were not only unappreciated but completely unwarranted [“Created Especially for Stephen Sondheim,” July 11]. I would take a mature Barbara Cook and gracious and brilliant Angela Lansbury to anyone Swed might offer up any day of the week. And to dismiss the talent of Josh Groban was equally mean-spirited, not to mention without merit.
