2004 Commanderie de Peyrassol Cotes de Provence rose, France

Share

Provence hasn’t seen such a terrific vintage for roses in decades; I can’t stop collecting and drinking them. They’re perfect for the aperitif hour, going easily from tapenade and salade a la nicoise to grilled shrimp and even a roast chicken perfumed with lemon and herbs.

I’m currently smitten with the rose from Commanderie de Peyrassol, a domaine that takes its names from the Knights Templar who owned the property until the French Revolution.

A blend of Syrah, Grenache and Cinsault, it’s a pale watermelon pink, with a crisp, refreshing acidity and a touch of tangerine and strawberries in the taste. Dry and full-bodied, it’s something like summer.
