Sun Avoids Upset by Lowly Sting

Katie Douglas scored 15 points, and the WNBA-best Connecticut Sun closed with a 17-2 run and beat the league-worst Charlotte Sting, 64-55, Tuesday at Charlotte, N.C.

The Sting (3-16) led, 53-47, with 5 minutes 57 seconds to play before the Sun went on a 9-0 run to take the lead. Douglas scored the final five points of the run, including a driving, over-the-shoulder scoop shot with 2:59 left that put Connecticut (15-4) ahead, 56-53.

Allison Feaster scored 14 points for the Sting.

Houston 58, Sacramento 54 -- Sheryl Swoopes scored 22 points at Houston to help the Comets beat the Monarchs for the first time in more than a year.

The Comets (12-7) moved within one game of the West Division-leading Monarchs, who had won four in a row against Houston.

The Comets had last beaten Sacramento on May 30, 2004.

DeMya Walker led the Monarchs (13-6) with 21 points.

Seattle 87, New York 78 -- Iziane Castro Marques scored a career-high 20 points and Betty Lennox had 18 at Seattle to lead the Storm (10-10) past the Liberty (8-8). Seattle lost standout Lauren Jackson to a sprained ankle with 7:19 to play.

Becky Hammon led the Liberty with 18 points.

Minnesota 66, Indiana 45 -- Vanessa Hayden scored all six of her points during a decisive 15-2 surge in the second half to help the Lynx (11-9) to a victory at Minneapolis.

Nicole Ohlde had 15 points, five rebounds and four assists for the Lynx, who bounced back from a 72-53 loss to Connecticut on Sunday to end the Fever’s three-game winning streak.

Tamika Catchings had 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Fever (11-7).
